You’ve spent some time searching for the best home safes. The options can feel overwhelming, with the insane number of choices ranging wildly in price, size, and quality. But if you just found yourself Googling, ‘Liberty - Premium Home 12,’ you’ve likely determined that protecting your valuables from theft and fire is important.

We’ve been selling safes for nearly 40 years. Experience has taught us that those are two very important priorities when selecting a safe. While Liberty’s line of Premium Home Safes is relatively new to the market (they were introduced in 2023), the Utah manufacturer has been producing high-quality safes since 1988.

While we’re undeniable fans of the Liberty Premium Home Safe 12, we’ll do our best to provide an unbiased look at all facets of the safe. Ultimately, our top priority is helping you find the best safe for you.

Liberty Premium Home 12 Design and Construction

The Premium Home 12 was designed for homeowners like you. It offers an elegant appearance that can be as cozy and content in a bedroom or office as in a master bedroom closet or family room.

Can it fit in your closet? Most likely, yes. Thanks to its slim footprint (it’s just 24.5" wide and 19" deep), it can often be installed within your existing shelving. The Premium Home 12 is also 41.75" tall, making it roughly the height of a lower closet rod.

21 Different Colors & Finishes

If you’re worried about a big, black box sitting in your home, don’t be. The Premium Home Safe 12 comes in 21 different exterior colors and finishes. (Let’s hear it for customizing our accessories!)

10-Gauge Steel Body

The heavy-duty body is constructed from 10-gauge steel, offering nearly six times the bending strength of the 14-gauge steel typically found in home safes. Furthermore, this heavy duty steel offers enhanced protection against both fire and burglary.

The 10-gauge steel helps this safe earn its 2-hour fire rating at 1200º F. Because the door can withstand a high heat without warping, it maintains its tight door seal to keep the internal temp of the safe down and contaminants (smoke and water) out.

Additionally, the heavier gauge steel body is much more difficult for a thief to cut through or pry open.

Top 4 Security Features of a Premium Home Safe 12

Liberty Premium Home 12 solid state locking bars

Security is a significant highlight of the Liberty Premium Home 12. It comes equipped with several advanced security features designed to deter burglars and keep your valuables safe:

1. Locking Mechanism

The Premium Home 12 is available with your choice of an Electronic ProLogic lock or a Sargent and Greenleaf Dial Lock. Both options are UL-listed and come highly recommended by our in-house Master Safe Technician due to their reliability.

2. Reinforced Door and Bolt System

Solid State Locking Bar verse Round Bolts

The door is built with 6 Solid State™ Locking Bars — giving the safe unmatched pry resistance.

Traditionally, a safe’s door would be ‘locked’ into place by extending several bolts from the door into the body of the safe. These bolts were attached to the door using rivets, which could create weak points.

Liberty introduced a revolutionary locking system with its Solid State™ Locking Bars. Made from a single piece of American-made steel, it eliminates these weak points. Additionally, the single piece of steel offers full edge-to-edge contact which drastically increases the safe’s pry-resistance.

3. Slip-Clutch Mechanism

Liberty's collar-style slip-clutch mechanism provides enhanced protection against forced entry. This mechanism controls the retraction and extension of the locking bars when the exterior handle is turned.

Unlike traditional welded designs that can break off under excessive force — locking you out of your safe — the modern collar-style mechanism spins freely when too much force is applied. This prevents damage to the safe while effectively thwarting forced entry attempts.

4. Fire Protection

The Liberty - Premium Home 12 features a 120-minute fire rating and is equipped with a Palusol heat-activated door seal. The seal is made from sodium silicate enclosed in a thermoplastic profile. When exposed to heat, the non-combustible material foams up to five times its original thickness.

As the Palusol door seal expands, it fills the minor gaps between the body and door of the safe. This seal protects against smoke, heat, and water damage by sealing these minor gaps.

Premium Home 12 Customizable Interior

While you can’t pick the fabric interior of a Premium Home 12, the adjustable interior shelving does allow you to configure your storage space to meet your needs. Whether storing important documents (such as birth certificates and social security cards) or valuables (like jewelry and cash), the shelves can be arranged to accommodate items of varying sizes.

Lined with soft fabric to prevent scratches on delicate items, the interior also includes a standard light kit, ensuring easy visibility inside the safe at all times. The door panel comes equipped with hooks and a Liberty Cool Pocket — a unique feature made from Liberty’s proprietary heat shield material.

The Cool Pocket is a large file folder made from Liberty’s proprietary heat shield material. This material is uniquely designed to keep its contents up to 50 degrees cooler than the rest of the safe during a fire.

In a recent tragedy, one of our customers lost all of their belongings due to a home fire, except what had been stored in their Cool Pocket — $27K in cash.

Premium Home 12 is Extremely Easy to Use

Opening a Liberty Premium Home 12

Using the Liberty Premium Home 12 is simple and convenient, particularly with the electronic ProLogic lock option. The e-lock comes standard on a Premium Home 12. It provides quick and easy access, ideal for those who may have unsteady hands.

However, many customers prefer the classic dial lock for its reliability. With no batteries to be replaced, it is unaffected by potential EMP outages.

For customers who prefer the classic dial lock for (whether for looks or battery-free operation) a dial lock is available through certain dealers. These lock swaps will typically come with an additional charge.

Liberty - Premium Home 12 FAQ

Will a Liberty - Premium Home 12 keep my kids out?

Gaining unauthorized access to the Liberty - Premium Home 12 is extremely difficult. As long as you keep your combination secure, it’s nearly impossible for anyone, including your kids, to get inside the safe.

With the ProLogic Lock, after four incorrect combination attempts, the lock automatically enters a 4-minute lockout mode. For the dial lock, there are 1 million possible combinations, making random attempts impractical and time-consuming, potentially taking hours, days, or even weeks.

These advanced lock mechanisms, combined with the safe’s durable construction, provide peace of mind, ensuring that adventurous kiddos won’t uncover anything you’d prefer to keep private.

Is it difficult to install a Premium Home 12?

The Liberty - Premium Home Safe weighs 414 pounds. It is also a large and awkward shape. For most homeowners, installing this safely themselves is a bit much. Unlike many big box stores that only offer curbside delivery or first-floor delivery, our in-house delivery crews offer full-service delivery and installation anywhere in your house. This service includes:

  • Safely moving your safe to the exact location you want it while protecting your walls, floor, and thresholds. (If your safe doesn’t fit where you want it, we can help you find the next best solution!)
  • Leveling your safe to ensure proper door swing.
  • Teaching you how to use your safe (including helping you program your electronic lock)

Where can a Liberty - Premium Home 12 be installed?

You can place your Liberty - Premium Home 12 virtually anywhere in your home, as long as you have enough floor space and overhead. We frequently install these safes in second-story master bedrooms and closets.

Popular installation locations also include home offices or butler's pantries. For added security, we recommend bolting your safe to the floor. This extra precaution enhances burglary resistance and ensures your Premium Home Safe stays firmly in place.

What if I can’t get my safe open?

Concerned about being locked out of your safe? The first thing we ask anyone experiencing issues with an electronic lock is, "When was the last time you replaced the battery?" In most cases, simply installing a new battery can resolve the problem and save you from a service call. If a battery replacement doesn’t do the trick, our in-house Master Safe Technician can open any safe and help you regain access.

Why Doesn’t This Safe Have a Key Bypass?

While some folks will proclaim a key bypass (aka a key backup) as an emergency safety net, these key bypasses are actually a security threat. Any lock with a key bypass is not UL listed and can be easier to break into.

Why would I regret buying a Premium Home 12?

It’s our sincere hope that you don’t. However, in our experience, the most common regret customers have is buying too small of a safe. Safes can’t be remodeled. In general, the valuables a customer wants to store in their safe takes up more space than they anticipated. Additionally, it can be hard to know what future purchases you will want to put in your safe.

A safe is one of the few purchases we make that not only lasts our lifetime but continues to be used in a family for generations. If your valuables end up outgrowing your safe, you have two choices: purchase an additional safe or upgrade.

The good news is that we’re here to help with either of those options — including removing your old safe when we deliver a new one. So you can rest easy that too small of a safe isn’t a permanent problem.

Is there an easy and affordable financing option?

Some safe retailers offer financing options for new home safes and gun safes. Here at NW Safe, we have affordable financing powered by two different options:

  • Buy now, pay later with Shop Pay
  • 12 Month Same As Cash

Both of these options are contingent on approved credit and may require a down payment.

Is a Liberty - Premium Home 12 Right for Me?

While we can't reduce the number of home safes available on Amazon or at Costco, we hope this overview has highlighted the exceptional security and versatility of the Liberty - Premium Home 12. For those seeking a high-quality safe that protects against burglary and fire, this model delivers.

Pick the color you want for your new Premium Home 12 and choose if you want us to retrofit your standard electron lock with a dial lock. Let’s get you on the delivery schedule!
