Top American-Made Entry-Level Gun Safe

14 Gauge Steel, Solid State Locking Bars, and a Flexible Interior

CN24 in a mancave

Are you looking for a quality, U.S built rifle safe for around $1,000? If your goals are to keep kids away from firearms and achieve a basic level of security and fire protection, the Liberty Centurion 24 will provide you with just that.

As a family-owned and operated business, we’ve been selling safes since 1988. For more than 10 years, the Liberty Centurion 24 has been one of our best budget-friendly deals.

What’s there to love about these safes? What is there to be desired? And is this the right safe for you? In this blog post, we’ll do our best to provide an honest review that will help you answer these questions. In this post, we’ll cover the following:

  • Key Features of a Liberty Centurion 24

  • Storage Capacity of a Liberty Centurion 24

  • Cost of a Liberty Centurion 24

  • How & Where to Install a Liberty Centurion 24

  • Liberty Safe Centurion 24 FAQs

Key Features of a Liberty Centurion 24

Solid State Flat Bars

Steel Construction

The Centurion 24 features 14-gauge steel, which is robust enough to deter smash-and-grab robberies and tampering. While thicker steel offers greater protection, 14 gauge is a reasonable choice for this price range. (You’ll find more about the price of this safe below.)

Solid State™ Locking Bars

Liberty’s Solid State™ Locking Bars is a uniquely developed locking system that uses a single piece of steel on each side of the safe. This single-surface approach eliminates the weak points that can be found with traditional pins. The design’s increased surface area offers impressive pry resistance compared to safes of a similar price point.

Fire Protection

This safe has a 40 minute fire rating at 1200°F. It is not a safe we’d recommend for fire protection. If you’re facing the threat of a fire and you have a CN24 gun safe, we’d recommend taking your valuables and firearms with you.

While the Centurion 24 is an excellent safe in its price range, we recommend purchasing a safe of commensurate value to the items you’re storing. For example, if you’re planning to store $10K in value (or less) and want minimal fire protection, we recommend the Liberty USA 30. It is of similar size, while offering a better chance of withstanding a fire.

Locking Mechanism

The Centurion 24 gun safe comes with your choice of a mechanical lock or a Securam TopLit electronic lock. Both locks are UL-listed and feature the U.L. Magic Mount Template.

We would never recommend purchasing a safe with a non-U.L. listed lock. The repair costs alone of a non-U.L. listed lock greatly eclipse those associated with a U.L. listed lock. Additionally, Magic Mount template allows the lock to be easily, affordably, and securely interchanged if you ever decide you want to switch between a mechanical lock and an electronic lock.

Adjustable Interior

The dual-flex interior shelving system allows you to adjust or remove shelves as desired. This customization is particularly beneficial for those who want to store a mix of firearms, documents, and other valuables.

Door Panel Storage

The factory-installed economy door storage panel is an extra perk of the Centurion 24. This panel features:

  • 4 Pistol Sleeves

  • 2 Mesh Pockets

  • 2 Zippered Pockets

  • 1 File Pocket

Storage Capacity of a Liberty Centurion 24

____________ ____________

Weight

375 lbs.

Exterior Dimensions (H x W x D):

59.5" x 28.25" x 20"

Interior Dimensions (H x W x D):

56" x 26.25" x 13.5"

Officially, the Centurion 24 can hold up to 24 long guns. In reality, the 24-long gun capacity is for barebones shotguns and rifles without any scopes or accessories. For most individuals, the Centurion 24 will hold between 10 - 15 shotguns and rifles if you use both sides of the safe for long guns.

This storage discrepancy is not exclusive to the CN24 or Liberty Safe. In fact, it’s consistent within the gun safe industry as a whole.

If you want to maintain half the safe for shelving, you can expect to store closer to 6-8 long guns. Half-shelving, half-long guns is the most common configuration among CN24 owners, as it allows them space for ammunition, valuables, cash, important documents, and more.

How & Where to Install a Liberty Centurion 24

With a black textured or granite textured finish, the Liberty Centurion 24 isn’t generally considered a show stopper like some of its glossier (and pricier) brothers. But we still think it looks pretty darn sweet. And we’ve installed it just about everywhere, including:

Weighing 375 pounds, installing a CN24 is extremely difficult without the proper tools and expertise. Nearly all retailers will offer curbside delivery, and some will provide first-floor delivery. These limited options are a result of the risk involved.

We have the region’s best safe delivery crews. Our guys are equipped with the essential tools and hands-on experience to ensure your safe is installed without any damage to your home. These tools include:

  • Door jamb protectors

  • Slick sticks (also known as slick slides)

  • Electric stair-climbing dollies

Liberty Safe Centurion 24 FAQs

Will Liberty Safe Give the FBI My Combination?

Liberty Safe receives nearly 5,000 calls for lost and forgotten combinations every year. From customers who have lost the combinations to their safe. In order to help their customers, Liberty maintains a secure storage of these codes.

If you would like to opt out of this combination recovery, you can request to have your combination expunged from Liberty’s system. If you do so, Liberty cannot help you recover your combination. If Liberty receives a warrant for your combination, they will also be unable to provide it.

Does the Centurion 24 Require Maintenance?

As with any worthwhile investment, gun safes require regular maintenance to keep them functioning correctly. Some gun safe maintenance you can easily do by yourself, such as paying attention to a drifting combination on a dial lock and replacing the battery on an electronic lock. Other maintenance is best left to a professional master safe technician, such as adjusting the slip clutch mechanism.

What Kind of Warranty Does the Centurion 24 Have?

The Centurion 24 comes with a 5-year warranty on the lock and a lifetime transferable warranty on the body. The lifetime warranty covers the following:

  • Repairs for your damaged safe

  • Replacing your safe if it's too damaged to be repaired

  • Shipping costs to send you a new safe

  • Installation costs

  • If your safe was damaged enough to be put into lockout mode, Liberty will pay a professional to come open it up for you

  • Removal of your old safe (yep, if your safe is damaged beyond repair, they will also pay for it to be removed)

Will My Guns Rust in a Centurion 24?

Guns rust when they are exposed to moisture for prolonged periods. Rust can occur in a Centurion 24 just like it can in Magnum 50. To avoid rust, the key is to minimize moisture in your gun safe.

In most instances, moisture can be controlled by a dehumidifier. Our top dehumidifier recommendation is a GunSaver Dry Rod Safe Dehumidifier. A Desiccant Moisture Absorber is another good option if you lack access to a power supply (or want a dehumidifier backup).

Purchase a Liberty Centurion 24

If your goals are to keep kids away from firearms and achieve a basic level of security and fire protection, the Centurion 24 will provide you with just that. We recommend storing no more than $10K in overall value in this level of safe, This safe is not a good fit for a higher value collection and nothing irreplaceable or heirloom items. The Centurion is not recommended for precious metal storage, more than $5K in cash or sensitive documents that could be lost in a serious fire.

The Centurion is a great fit for the consumer looking for that budget friendly, American made safe which is a solid alternative to the imported box store safes that are of lesser quality and reliability.
