00:00 – Why We Still Sell Liberty Safes
In this episode of The Safe Space, we are taking a different approach. Instead of focusing on one type of safe, we are looking at an entire brand and helping customers understand the different models available.
We are starting with Liberty Safe for a good reason. NW Safe has been a continuous Liberty dealer for almost 40 years. Liberty played a major role in helping our company become what it is today.
One thing that makes Liberty different is the range of American-made safes it offers. While several manufacturers have moved their entry-level models overseas, Liberty continues to build its main gun safe lineup in the United States. That includes models ranging from the entry-level Centurion to high-end safes like the Presidential.
This gives customers plenty of choices based on their budget, security needs, fire protection needs, and where the safe will be installed.
04:47 – Presidential and Magnum: Level 10 Security
At the top of Liberty's traditional gun safe lineup are the Presidential and Magnum. Liberty gives these safes a Level 10 security rating.
The Presidential has a 3/16-inch steel body and 2.5-hour fire rating. The door uses a 1/4-inch steel plate behind the outer shell, creating a strong and rigid design. Customers also get premium features, including a finished interior, door organizer, gear-driven locking system, and many paint and hardware choices.
The Presidential and Magnum are essentially the same safe with different styling. In fact, members of our own team have used these models in their homes for years.
They are especially attractive for homeowners who want strong security without moving into the extreme weight of a commercial burglary-rated safe. Depending on the size and installation, they may also work well upstairs or on a wood subfloor.
The Liberty Presidential 50 withstood an estimated 8-9 hours of attack from the would-be thief.
09:30 – New Interiors and More Flexibility
Liberty is also updating its safes with new interior options.
One of the biggest changes is the Pro Flex interior. Traditional gun safes often use center dividers and shelf clips. Pro Flex replaces that setup with steel rails and brackets mounted along the back of the safe.
This makes shelves easier to adjust and allows them to support more weight. Removing the center divider also gives owners more freedom to organize firearms, documents, valuables, and other items.
Liberty is expanding these features into more models, including versions of the Franklin, Lincoln, and Presidential. We like seeing manufacturers listen to customers and dealers and make changes that improve how a safe works in everyday life.
12:32 – Classic Plus: Strong Residential Security
Moving down to Liberty's Level 9 security brings us to the Classic Plus, one of our longtime favorites.
The Classic Plus uses a 10-gauge steel body, which is roughly 1/8-inch thick. It also has a 3/8-inch plate door with a double-step design. That combination gives the door excellent rigidity and makes it harder to pry.
The double-step door also helps with fire protection because it allows the safe to use two expanding fire seals instead of one.
We consider 10-gauge steel an important step up for residential security. Thinner 14- and 16-gauge safe bodies can be much easier to attack with basic tools. The heavier body of the Classic Plus creates a much tougher barrier.
The Classic Plus has been one of our best-selling safes over the years because it offers a strong balance of security, fire protection, features, and price.
17:53 – Classic Select: Going Bigger
For customers who need more space, Liberty also offers the Classic Select 60.
This is a large safe with a 10-gauge steel body, solid plate door, and 90-minute fire rating. It can also be ordered with many of Liberty's interior, paint, hardware, and door-panel options.
Liberty advertises storage for up to 60 guns, although we always remind customers that manufacturer gun counts can be optimistic. Scopes, accessories, firearm size, and the way the safe is organized can greatly reduce the actual capacity.
Even so, the Classic Select offers a lot of usable space in a large, American-made safe with a heavy steel body and plate door.
From the Presidential and Magnum down through the Classic Plus and Classic Select, the goal isn't simply to buy the most expensive safe. Our goal at NW Safe is to help customers match the safe to what they are protecting, where it will be installed, and the level of security they actually need.
20:11 – Lincoln and Premium Home Safes
Liberty builds its heavier safes on a high-end production line where experienced employees handle more of the welding and assembly by hand. This includes models like the Lincoln and Classic Plus.
The Lincoln has a 10-gauge steel body, two-hour fire rating, and heavy locking mechanism. It also includes many premium features, such as a door organizer, jewelry drawer, and plenty of color and finish options.
The Premium Home Safe is based on the Lincoln. It shares similar steel thickness and fire protection, but has an interior designed more for valuables and documents.
In reality, there isn't a major difference between a "gun safe" and a "home safe." The biggest difference is the interior. We can adjust shelves and storage to fit what the customer plans to protect.

24:04 – Franklin: A Strong Middle Ground
The Franklin has been one of our most popular Liberty models for years. We consider it a strong middle-of-the-road choice for customers who want more protection than an entry-level safe without jumping to Liberty's highest-end models.
Today's Franklin has an 11-gauge steel body and a 110-minute fire rating. It also has locking bars on all four sides of the door, a door organizer, power, lights, and an available Pro Flex interior.
The Pro Flex system makes it easy to customize the interior. Liberty is also adding accessories such as watch winders and filing cabinets that can attach directly to the system.
Customers can also choose different locks. We are especially fond of Sargent & Greenleaf mechanical dial locks because of their reliability and feel.
29:26 – Franklin 45 and Collector Series
Customers may remember Liberty's popular Fatboy. That model hasn't disappeared. It has essentially become the Franklin 45.
The Franklin 45 gives customers a wider safe while keeping the same basic construction as the Franklin line.
For even more room, Liberty offers the Collector and Collector Tall. These safes also use an 11-gauge body and have a 110-minute fire rating. The standard Collector is Liberty's widest safe and offers plenty of room for long guns.
The Collector Tall increases the height from 60 to 72 inches. For someone looking for a large, American-made safe at a reasonable price, both are worth considering.
32:24 – Colonial: Top of Entry Level
The Colonial has long been another high-volume safe for us. It offers a good balance for customers who care about price but still want useful security and fire features.
It has a 75-minute fire rating and locking-bar coverage on all four sides of the door. Customers can also choose the Pro Flex interior. In fact, the Colonial is currently the lowest model in Liberty's lineup that offers Pro Flex.
We think of the Colonial as the top end of Liberty's entry-level safes. It doesn't have every luxury feature found on higher models, but Liberty hasn't removed the important basics.
It also uses a two-stage fire seal. The first helps block smoke, while the second expands as temperatures rise to help seal the gap around the door.
35:42 – Centurion: Affordable American-Made Security
For customers shopping around the $1,000 price point, the Centurion is Liberty's entry-level answer.
The Centurion uses a 14-gauge steel body and is built on Liberty's high-volume production line. Depending on the size, models offer either a 30- or 40-minute fire rating. Owners can also add power, lights, and a dehumidifier.
One area where we think the Centurion stands out is its lock. Liberty offers quality Sargent & Greenleaf lock options, something we don't always see on entry-level safes.
Another advantage is where and how the Centurion is built. While many competitors move to imported safes at lower price points, the Centurion is made in the United States.
Liberty uses robotic welding on much of its high-volume lineup. This creates clean, consistent welds from safe to safe. We've toured the factory many times, and the combination of American steel, automated production, and consistent welding is a major reason we believe the Centurion offers strong value for an entry-level safe.

40:19 – Why Liberty Stands Out
Liberty doesn't build the heaviest safes on the market, but that's not why we have carried the brand for nearly 40 years.
Across its lineup, Liberty uses quality steel, proven manufacturing methods, and dependable locks. Just as important is the support behind the product. We have direct relationships with Liberty that help us take care of customers when problems come up.
We often compare Liberty to Toyota. Its strengths are consistent quality, reliability, and support.
41:58 – Call Your Dealer First
If a Liberty safe has a problem, we recommend contacting the local dealer first.
Liberty handles thousands of calls for issues like lost combinations and dead batteries. That can slow down its response to more serious problems.
As a dealer, we can often bridge that gap. We work directly with Liberty and have found the company consistently willing to stand behind its products.
Liberty's large production system is another advantage. It gives us more predictable manufacturing and shipping times, which helps us better serve our customers.
44:01 – Gun Cabinets and Ammo Storage
Liberty also offers gun cabinets, Ammo Cabinets, and Ammo Cans.
We generally recommend a true safe when the budget allows. However, these products can work for basic storage.
The Ammo Can is based on the Centurion and has a heavier locking system and some fire insulation, although it is not fire rated. The Ammo Cabinet is a simpler metal cabinet without fire insulation.
We also encourage customers to consider pre-owned commercial safes, which may provide better security and fire protection for a similar price.
46:13 – Value Across the Lineup
Our goal is to match customers with the best safe for their needs and budget.
That's one of Liberty's strengths. Customers can move from an entry-level Centurion to a Franklin, Lincoln, Presidential, or other higher-end model as their security needs increase.
Liberty also regularly offers promotions and rebates that can make upgrading easier.
