What Does TRTL-30x6 Stand For?
TR stands for ‘Torch Resistance.’ TL stands for ‘Tool Latency.’ The TRTL-30x6 rating means the safe can withstand an attack with both a torch and tool by UL’s skilled engineers for 30 minutes. In order for the engineers to successfully gain access to the safe, they must either:
- Open the Door
- Create a 6-inch Square Hole in the Safe’s Door or Body
If the engineers are unable to achieve either of these two goals, the safe is awarded a TRTL-30x6 rating.
TRTL-30x6 Safe Performance Testing Requirements & Procedures
Prior to testing, UL engineers are given the safe’s blueprints, allowing them to pre-determine any weak points. The engineers also fully dissect the safe prior to testing, giving them further advantage.
During the testing process ,engineers use a combination of torches, electronic tools, and manual tools to break into the safe. These implements can include:
- Torches
- Common Hand Tools
- Picking Tools (such as a pick ax)
- Mechanical or Portable Electronic Tools (such as drills and power saws)
- Sledgehammers
- Grinders (such as angle grinders)
IMPORTANT: The time limit for a TRTL-30x6 rated safe is 30 minutes. However, this time can be deceiving. When the test is being conducted, the clock is ONLY running while engineers are actively working on the safe.
If the engineers pause for any reason (including to change tools, review the blueprints, discuss a new plan of attack, or simply take a water break), the time stops. In reality, a ‘30 minute test’ can often take several hours (if not all day) to complete.
How is a TRTL-30X6 Safe Constructed?
Super Treasury safes feature a single-piece body construction, which eliminates pry-points anywhere but the door. Both the door and body are multi-layered structures created from outer and inner steel plates. These structures are further reinforced with steel bars and a monolithic casting of Alchornite — ISM’s patented torch- and drill-resistant composite material.
Three-way active bolt work is coupled with a double-action locking mechanism. Randomly located glass plate relocking protection is installed on all safes in front of the locks..
